Rev. LeRoy H. Beutel, 87, of Fredericksburg passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at UVA Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer.
Roy was born on January 23, 1935 to the late Edwin and Alice Beutel. One of ten siblings, he grew up on a farm in western New York.
He was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1961 and served four congregations over the course of his ministry. Roy retired in 2000, after serving Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington, VA for 24 years. He continued preaching throughout the region in retirement, always happy and willing to spread God’s word.
Roy was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg and dedicated countless hours volunteering at the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank and other feeding ministries. In the last 10 years, he wrote and published four Bible studies to help fulfill his passion for teaching others about God’s love and His gift of salvation.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothea Beutel; daughters Kim Serbu, Kelli Beutel, Kerri Petersen, and Kristin Connolly; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren (with one on the way); and siblings Bea White, Ed Beutel, Audrey Matarrese, and Rev. Donald Beutel.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Susan G. Beutel; and siblings Rev. Eugene Beutel, Jeanette Kroening, Allen Beutel, Kenneth Beutel, and James Beutel.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 6 at Christ Lutheran Church.
