Richard “Dick” Brown, 84, of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at his home with family.
Born on March 26, 1937 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Richard Brown and Dora Mathena Brown.
He served in the U.S. Army. After 40 years of service for Sears, Roebuck, and Company, he retired in 1999. After retiring, he continued to work on home improvements and repairs.
Dick was a hard worker, who was always willing to help a friend or a stranger. He was a long-time member and former president of the Fredericksburg Host Lions Club, former board member and volunteer for Hope House, and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. He was also a member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family. Besides volunteering, his hobbies were biking, riding SeaDoos, sailing his sailboat, hitting a bucket of balls, and watching football. Most of all he enjoyed doing projects around the home and also helping friends and family with home improvements and repairs.
He was the loving husband of Patricia “Patsy” Brown. He was also the cherished father of Victoria Sample, Gregory Brown (Yaneth), Dana Carmichael (David) and step-father of R. Douglas Rudolph and Eric Rudolph (Jim). He was also the adored “Pap-pap” to his five grandchildren, Ryan Sample, Logan Sample, Austin Sample, Emma Carmichael, and Evan Brown.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Fredericksburg Baptist Church with an additional visitation an hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
