January 25, 1948 ~ May 22, 2023 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Tribute

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Friedmann, beloved husband and father, who peacefully departed from this world on Monday, May 22, 2023.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Born on January 25, 1948 in Long Island, New York, Richard grew up in Central Islip, where he lived with his mother and four siblings.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1970 and became an officer specializing in air defense. Following his honorable discharge, Richard completed an associate’s degree while training as a Technical Sales Engineer with Lincoln Electric. Richard and Hermina moved to Atlanta, Georgia where they raised their two daughters before retiring to Oriental, North Carolina and later Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Richard had many hobbies which included racing sailboats, flying planes, golfing, and cooking. He was a talented craftsman and after countless home renovations, he built a home that would be his and Hermina’s first retirement home in Oriental, North Carolina. Not one to be idle, Richard enjoyed working at a marina and later a golf course during his retirement. He was a voracious reader and amateur historian of military conflicts, especially World War I and II.

Richard was a loving husband and father, and his devotion to his family was unwavering. He was an adventurous person and brought his girls along for the ride. He took every opportunity to spend time with and support his family, often spending weeks preparing for family events.

He was a devoted Christian and kept his faith in all aspects of life.

Richard leaves behind his wife, Hermina Huy Friedmann; daughters Anne and Elizabeth; son-in-law David Stump, Jr.; and grandchildren Reagan and Benjamin; sister Catherine Smith; and brothers Michael and Victor Friedmann.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Anne Friedmann; and brother Charles Friedmann.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to family and friends for their love, support, and condolences during this difficult time. Your kind words and gestures have brought comfort to all who have been touched by Richard's life.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
