Tribute

Richard Heck, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 31, 2020 at Mary Washington Hospital.

Rich was born to Gustav and Mildred C. O’Brien-Heck on April 30, 1927, in Irvington, NJ; the 4th of four children. He served the country during World War II, enlisting in the Navy in 1944, and saw action in the Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Shangri-La.

After the war, Rich returned home and worked with his father in the carpentry business. He married Helen Schuler on February 9, 1952 and had been married for 68 years. Upon retirement from carpentry, Rich volunteered his talents to Habitat for Humanity where he was active in the construction of several homes in the Pike County, Pennsylvania area.

Rich is survived by his wife, Helen; his two children, Richard Heck (Jennie) and Elizabeth Heck-Howard (Thomas); four grandchildren: Chris Heck, Nikki Heck, Michael Heck-Howard, and Katie Villalobos; and five great-grandchildren: John, Claire, Thea, Colin, and Logan.

A private Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Internment will take place privately in Quantico National Cemetery with military honors.

Rich’s family would like to thank everyone for all their support, kind thoughts and prayers during Rich’s illness.
