Robert “Wayne” Weaver, 73, of Fredericksburg passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021 after a five year battle with cancer, at home surrounded by his family. Wayne was born on July 31, 1947 to the late Robert and Mary Colston Weaver in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Following graduation from Woodrow Wilson High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a Special Forces Green Beret, serving from 1965-1968. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Wayne began his law enforcement career serving as a Virginia State Trooper (VSP) from 1970-1972. He then became a Chesapeake Police Officer, serving from 1973-1980. After completing his Bachelor’s Degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk in May 1978, he was accepted into the FBI as a Special Agent in February 1980 beginning his FBI career in Norfolk, followed by an assignment to the FBI office in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1984 he continued his career in Quantico serving on the first Hostage Rescue Team, participating in the 1984 Olympics as an Anti-Terrorist Agent. He then served as a Firearms Instructor at Quantico, followed by assignments to the Washington Field Office and Richmond Office totaling 22 years with the FBI.

Upon retirement, Wayne continued his career serving as a Detective with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office from 2002-2018, completing 50 years in law enforcement.

Wayne was a member of Ramoth Baptist Church in Stafford. He also served as a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge #22 as well as the Fredericksburg Moose Lodge. Wayne loved playing golf with the Pythian brothers. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball. He coached AAU baseball as well as other youth sports.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Brenda Monroe Weaver; daughter Stefanie Conners (Matthew); sons Travis Weaver of Huntsville, Alabama and Shawn Weaver of Portsmouth; grandchildren Kinsley and Camden Conners; brothers Douglas (Vicki) and Richard of Portsmouth; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert Weaver and Tommy Weaver.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne’s honor to Ramoth Baptist Church Building Fund, Knights of Pythias Lodge #22, or any cancer research foundation of your choice.
