Roberta Ann (Corter) Kerr

October 11, 1940 ~ July 18, 2022 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Roberta “Bobby” Ann Corter Kerr, 81, of Stafford died at her home on Monday, July 18, 2022, after a long and admirable battle with multiple health issues.

Bobby was born October 11, 1940, in Lock Haven, PA, and grew up in Mill Hall. After getting her degree at Lycoming College and a brief stint working as a medical technologist, she spent the next 15 years raising three kids while her husband was often at sea, navigating multiple cross-country moves, adding Great Danes, stray cats, and horses into the mix, and never seeming phased by the undertaking. Bobby later returned to her first career, working in labs at Mary Washington Hospital and then the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, where she made many friends, was a master of inventive Halloween costumes, baked a zillion pies, and did important work. Bobby then got a second degree in Historic Preservation at Mary Washington College and worked as an architectural historian and was a long-time volunteer at the Fredericksburg courthouse archives.

Always up for an adventure and full of fun, Bobby saw the country and the world, and she loved and gave to her children and grandchildren and their friends and her friends with enormous generosity.

She is survived by her daughters, Tracy Leigh Kerr Laughlin (Ashe) of Rapidan, VA, and Robin Leigh Kerr Serianni (Phil) of Southern Shores, NC; son Christopher Corter Kerr of Madison, VA; brothers Bill Corter (Margie) and Steve Corter (Leslie); granddaughters Harper Mavie Kerr and Glynis Ainsley Kerr; grandson Corter Leigh Laughlin; Corter and Kerr family relatives; and many friends and colleagues.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Osbourne and Robert Bruce Corter; and husband of 57 years, Commander Frank Leigh Kerr.

Small in stature, but a warrior in spirit, Bobby maintained the upper hand as long as she could. We miss our tough, fearless, indefatigable, fun-loving little bird. A celebration of life is planned for the fall. In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations in her memory to Mary Washington Healthcare Hospice.
