After a difficult battle with lung cancer, Roswitha O. Grymes, better known as “Sam”, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2023 surrounded by her family. Sam was 77 years old.
Born in Bamberg, Germany, Sam was a dedicated wife and mother. In 1962, Sam met her husband, Homer, while he was stationed with the US Army in Bamberg and immediately fell in love. They went on to be married for 39 years and had three children together.
In 1965, Sam came to the United States with her husband and first daughter, Sandy, initially landing in Texas where her second daughter, Donna, was born. She and Homer made their final move to Virginia in 1969 and welcomed their third daughter, Brenda, in 1970.
Sam drove a school bus for Spotsylvania County Schools for 33 years and was a bartender at the Spotsylvania Eagles Lodge Aerie #4391. She loved being around people and was always the life of the party.
Sam was a fiercely dedicated mother, raising three equally tenacious and dedicated daughters. Sam was our biggest cheerleader and our constant supporter. Our family would not be where it is today if we didn’t have Sam as a mother.
Sam was predeceased by her husband, Homer. She leaves behind her three daughters, Sandy Krehbiel (Tony), Donna Grymes, and Brenda Iles (Wells); her grandson, Joseph Krehbiel; and two great-grandchildren, Brayden Krehbiel and Betty Dykes.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
