SCPO (Ret.) David C. Hawkins, age 77, made his final deployment to his heavenly home on Thursday, December 31, 2020.
During his Naval career, he served aboard three nuclear submarines in the engineering division. His shore duty included time as an instructor at the Navy Nuclear Training Center and as a safety inspector at the Navy Safety Center. Prior to retiring, Dave served aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Nimitz, as a Nuclear Engineer.
After serving 20 years in the Navy, Dave retired in 1981 and began a new career as a Senior Reactor Operator/Shift Supervisor for the North Anna Nuclear power station. Dave also achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from Mary Washington College in 1991. He retired from Dominion Resources in 2002. Upon his retirement, he volunteered for the US Park Service, as a youth volunteer at his church and with the SPCA.
David is survived by his wife, Linda Hawkins, of Fredericksburg, VA; his son, Keith Hawkins, of Chesapeake, VA; his daughter, Nicole Hawkins-Normand (Henry) of Fredericksburg, VA; his grandchildren, Jacob Normand and Savannah Normand, both of Fredericksburg, VA; his brother, Walter Hawkins (Barbara) of Kennewick, WA; his sister in law, Nance Hawkins, of Cammel, PA, his sister in law, Betty Hodge, of Valentines, VA; along with many nieces and nephews.
Covenant Funeral Service will be handling the final arrangements. Due to the severity of COVID-19, a celebration of life will be held at Salem Baptist Church at a later date.
