Samuel K. Wiser, 79, of Stafford and formerly of Port Matilda, PA, peacefully passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 in Charlottesville.

Sam was born on March 6, 1939 in Port Matilda and attended Port Matilda schools.  He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and earned his Eagle Scout in 1954.  Sam married his wife, Judith Ann Wiser (Williams) on January 21, 1956, and they spent 62 years, 11 months, and 7 days together.

Sam worked at Cerro Copper and Brass in Bellefonte following his service in the US Marine Corps. He and his wife, Judy, owned the Port Matilda Hotel and Bar from 1979 to 1987.  Sam retired as a supervisor with Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc.

Sam had many hobbies and was not one to sit still.  He owned a mule team which he trained and showed.  Sam won first place at the 2004 Virginia Draft Horse and Mule Association’s annual show.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of almost 63 years, Judith Ann Wiser (Williams) of Stafford; one son, William Wiser (Kathi); three grandchildren Derek Wiser (Emily) of Pittsburgh, PA, Julie Brosnan (Kevin) of Stafford, and Janelle Santelli (Mark) of Clayton, NC; and five great-grandsons Christopher, Finnegan, and Killian Brosnan, and Landon and Avery Santelli.  Sam was preceded in death by his parents, William “Pete” and Verna Wiser, as well as sister, Shirley Patterson and her husband Carl.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers and in Sam’s memory, donations may be made to your local hospice.
