Shirley J. Mooney

Shirley J. Mooney passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2020.

She was on born June 5, 1947 to Lucille and George Carrico in Arlington, VA. Retired from the Department of the Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command after 30 years of service, she then worked for ZAI for an additional 13 years before her final retirement in 2012. Shirley was a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church. She enjoyed going to the beach and seeing lighthouses. She also enjoyed traveling to California to see her brothers and going to the casinos.

Survived by her son, Billy Mooney, of Florida; granddaughters, Samantha Mooney-Griffith (Shawn) and Haleigh Baldwin; grandson, Christopher Mooney; former daughter-in-law and mother of Christopher and Samantha, Kathy Blankenship; great-grandchildren Gunner, Steven, Chandler, Harley, Katlyn and Krystal; sister Sue Carrico, of Virginia; brothers George Carrico and David Hilbish, of California; niece Jessica Healey (Tyler); great-nieces Hadleigh and Peyton; and her many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Mooney; and son, Steven Mooney.

Loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She will be missed by many but never forgotten.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 23 at Covenant Funeral Service Chapel, Fredericksburg. A service will immediately follow at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
