Tribute

Steven Patrick Luke, 54, of Stafford, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in Alexandria.

To our amazing father, husband, brother, son, and friend. Steven will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He made a great impact on those around him, far more than he ever gave himself credit for doing. Steven was generous with his time and made sure that those around him knew that they mattered and were loved. He had two main priorities in his life: his family and serving the Lord.

Steven was born on September 23, 1964 on Luke Air Force Base, the youngest of four boys to his parents, Janet Anne Shelton and Freddie Allen Luke. He graduated from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas in 1983. Steven then served an eighteen month mission in the Dominican Republic for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Amy Lee Edwards shortly after returning in 1985 and they were married in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints Temple in Dallas, Texas and they have been married for 33 years.

Steven graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor of arts in Spanish in 1988 and he went on to earn his master’s degree in human resource management in 1991. He went on to a career as an intelligence officer in the United States Air Force. Steven’s career took him and his family all over the world. The Luke family grew very close together during his many military tours abroad and they will always look fondly upon their time in Asia, Central America, and Europe.

Steven was a hardworking and diligent father. He was an active member of the church and a worthy priesthood holder. Steven had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and dedicated his life to service and a serious study of the gospel, which he taught for many years. His family was his first priority and his joy. Steven loved spending time and doing individual trips with each of his children to express his love for them. He cared deeply for them and always did his best to help them realize their potential. Always included in his family were the countless dogs that blessed his life with friendship.

Survivors include a loving and devoted wife, Amy Lee Luke; four children Ellen and Brian of Stafford, Alex and Alise of North Chicago, Ill., Laura and Brad of Springfield, Ill., and Allison of Stafford; two future grandchildren due in February and August; father Fred Luke; step-mother Orpha; brothers Ted (Patti Jo); David (Lee-Ann) and John (Jennifer); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 161 Eustace Rd., Stafford.
