Sylvester G. “Squirt” Minney, 74, of Manassas, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
Sylvester was born on December 10, 1944 to the late Sylvester David and Mollie Reed Minney of West Virginia.
Squirt was a devoted Christian who gave his life to God and had served as a Deacon in his church. Everyone who knew Squirt knew of his great love of the Redskins and how much he enjoyed cheering his team on. He also loved to see the falling snow and the promise it brought of climbing on his tractor and plowing the snow.
More important to him than anything else was his love for God and his family. He always made sure that each and every one of us knew how proud he was of us.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 43 years, Carolyn Joy Minney; daughters Tammy Ruhl (Tim) and Tanya Wright (Robert); stepdaughter Kim Lipscomb; stepson Donnie Wratchford (Zula); 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister Patty Pryor; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clark, Leonard, Edmund, Ersel, Bradford, Frank, Kesslie; as well as sisters Irene, Ruby, and Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
