Walker Isaac Broyles, 77, of Stafford County peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at his home after a long illness.
Walker was born in Madison County, Virginia to parents of humble means. At 17, he joined the United States Navy, and found a sense of belonging and stability not always present in his childhood years. He was schooled on radio communications, teletype maintenance, and crypto repair. Walker served as a radioman aboard the USS Belknap (DLG-26) for two tours in Vietnam, attaining the rank of Radioman Chief. He was awarded numerous medals during his active duty including the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and was twice a Shellback, followed by 10 years in the Naval Reserve. As a civilian, he worked as an electronics technician for the Department of the Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia, retiring in 2000. Walker was a proud patriot with a strong belief of right and wrong and expected no less of others. He had a devout relationship with his God, worshipping Him in his own way.
Walker could fix anything and was generous in sharing his expertise with anyone who needed help. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and cooking at which he excelled and was a beekeeper for about 10 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Sara; daughter Tabitha; granddaughter Carley; grandson Caleb; stepdaughter Amber Harley (Ben); step granddaughter Liz Harley; step grandson FM Chase Harley USN; and his beloved dog Maya; as well as many friends and family and will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle.
A service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
