William Allen Barnes

October 16, 1945 ~ October 21, 2023 (age 78) 78 Years Old

William “Bill” Allen Barnes, 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2023, with his loving wife of 57 years, Lynda Barnes, and family by his side.

Bill was born on October 16, 1945, to Allen Taber Barnes, Jr. and Marjorie Elnora Prather Barnes in Van Nuys, California. Bill was an only child who grew up on a farm and developed an early passion for cars. Not long after high school graduation, Bill met Lynda and they fell in love and wed in December of 1966. A retired military veteran spending 20 years in the USCG, Bill obtained the rank of CWO-3 after enlisting into the service, ending his career at the USCG Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Like many military families, Bill and Lynda spent time at several different posts including, California, Hawaii, Minnesota, and Washington, D.C. Following his retirement, Bill began a career in Computer Consulting which led to time in Pennsylvania, Texas, North Carolina, and back to Northern Virginia where they settled in the Falls Run Community in Fredericksburg, VA. In addition to the travels for work and career, Bill and Lynda loved their trips taken to places like London, Paris, and Mexico, among others including many family trips too numerous to count…

Bill was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge since his induction in 1972, following his father’s footsteps into the brotherhood.

Bill loved the game of golf and was proud of his membership in the Falls Run Old Golfers Club. He spent many hours at the Gauntlet Golf Club refining his swing, and over analyzing his drives, chips, and putts. Golf was a big part of his life.

Bill was a wonderful, devoted husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. He would always lend a helping hand no matter the circumstances. Bill spent countless hours at baseball games, wrestling matches, golf tournaments, horse competitions, soccer games, weddings, graduations, as well as most, if not all, family events.

Bill is survived by his wife, Lynda Barnes; two sons, Tim Barnes (Kirston) of Duncansville, PA and Brad Barnes (Susannah) of Washington, VA; and eight grandchildren, Jack Barnes, Izzy Fernando, Sam Barnes, Annika Barnes, Jimmy Fernando, Ronan Barnes, Nick Barnes, and Sophie Barnes.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Gauntlet Golf Club. A private interment will take place at a later date in Quantico National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to ASPCA.ORG in honor of Bill’s cat, Charlie, who was never far from his side.
