John Raymond Wolfrey, 94, of Spotsylvania County passed away, Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mr. Wolfrey was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Spotsylvania. He retired from the Department of Highways. Mr. Wolfrey was also a farmer with a lifelong love for farming.

Survivors include his son John K. Wolfrey and wife Diana; daughter, Mary W. Wilkerson; brother Fleming Wolfrey; sisters Agnes Tate, Maggie Trainham and Edith Pritchett; three grandchildren Susan Hinz, John Robert Wilkerson and Robert K. Wolfrey; two great grandchildren  Elizabeth and Wilson Hinz; and his beloved dog Chico.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lola Perry Wolfrey.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 23 at Zion United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Confederate Cemetery at Spotsylvania. Pallbearers will be Robert K Wolfrey, Lee Sager, Harold Pritchett, Billy Lloyd, Wrase Perry and John Wilkerson.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, 8700 Courthouse Road Spotsylvania, Va. 22553.

John R. Wolfrey, husband, father and good friend. We will miss you.

    Mary Ann, J.R., Kenny and Diana…..Ricky and I would like to extend our most sincere sympathy to you all in the passing of such a great man as Johnny Wolfrey. IWe remember him best when he and Herndon worked at VDOT togetherbnfor so many years…they were the best of friends and he and Johnny and Lola and Earlis would always go out together and have such a great time. Now they are all back together again! What a time they must be having!! Treasure your memories..for they will carry you all thru this time..WE LOVE YOU ALL!!
